Significant Tree 179: Avenue of Trees, Frome Road

Botanical name: Platanus hybrida
Common name: London plane
One of the early avenues of trees planted in Adelaide, was commented upon in an early tourist guide to the City of Adelaide (Goodwin, 1906):
Emerging from the western exit of the Botanic Park, the visitor will come upon the Frome Road avenue of trees. This is the pride of Adelaidians. It fairly breaks the bank in respect of adjectives. More luxuriant or better grown trees one cannot conceive of. Can continental cities know anything finer? Many visitors say that it outrivals the Linden trees of Berlin and competes with the Boulevards of gay Paris. The finest Avenue in Australia, without a doubt!
Nominated to the Trust's Register of Significant Trees for the Avenue’s outstanding aesthetic beauty.
Location and Access:
The Frome Road avenue of trees is located along Frome Road, Adelaide, between the North Terrace and Victoria Drive intersection. The site is accessible and open to the public all year round.
