Kotz Cottage
Kotz Cottage is a stone cottage that was built in stages prior to 1872. Its layered state of decay illustrates low-cost construction techniques. The cottage reminds us of the diversity of economy in Burra's early history which was generally dominated by its mining history. In addition to mining the Burra area saw the development of agriculture which ensured Burra's survival when the mine closed.
The siting of the cottage adjacent to the Burra Creek reflects the importance of the creek in the development of Burra. The layout of the buildings and structures within the site demonstrates the functional requirements of an agricultural settlement.
